Does meditation change how fast you walk?

This might sound like a strange observation, but I’ve noticed my walking pace has slowed down over the past year or so.

Not in a huge way, I still get where I’m going, but there’s less of that constant forward lean, like the body is trying to arrive before the rest of me gets there.

I’m not doing walking meditation most of the time. This is just normal getting-from-point-A-to-point-B walking. Something about the rhythm feels different.

It made me wonder if meditation changes small motor habits without us realizing it. The nervous system settling a bit? Or maybe I’m just getting old. Haha.

Curious if anyone else has noticed shifts like that. Walking pace, typing speed, how fast you eat, little everyday rhythms. Things you wouldn’t normally connect to meditation.

I’ve noticed something similar, though for me it showed up more as fewer moments of rushing rather than an overall slower pace. What changed was that subtle feeling of being mentally somewhere else while the body is moving. When attention is a bit more where you are, the urge to hurry can soften on its own.

I’m not sure meditation directly changes motor habits, but it might change the pressure behind them. And once that pressure drops a little, the body finds a different rhythm

One thing I’ve picked up on is how people who have been meditating for a long time, like monks or teachers, often speak more slowly and deliberately. There’s a kind of natural pacing and a confidence to it. I’ve always found that interesting, and honestly something I’d love to see happen in myself… I can be a bit of a jabber jaw!

Your walking example feels like it’s in that same category. Not something you’re trying to change, just a shift in rhythm that seems to happen on its own. Less of that forward-leaning feeling. Curious if it crept in gradually for you, or if you remember when you first started noticing it?
