Hello community, this is the first time in my life that I am doing meditation and I am following the training of FitMind. I am 40 years old and So far I have been doing this for 12 days consecutives and it is a bit scary how my brain feels after 10min of this, like in a state of mental levitation/Zoombie however I only see the benefits of the meditation after this feeling is gone which takes me around 1 hour, where then my mind is clear and sharper. Is this a normal thing in meditation that ttakes long to come back?
Hi there! Welcome to the practice. It is so interesting how different our experiences can be!
I actually have the exact opposite feeling: I enjoy the “flow” enormously during and immediately after meditation, while the rest of my day often feels more like being on “automatic pilot.” Thanks to the practice, I’m slowly learning to do more things with intent and awareness.
I don’t think there is a “good” or “bad” way to feel—everyone’s brain processes the shift differently. It’ll be fascinating to see how this evolves for you. Let’s check back in six months and see how we’re both doing!
Hi Lizeth and welcome to the wonderful world of meditation! I’ve seen this kind of lag before in my practice (I’m a meditation-focused therapist), where the nervous system needs time to reorient after settling in a new way. Sometimes the clarity doesn’t arrive immediately because the system is still integrating the shift.
What matters is that things do come back into balance. Over time, that transition often gets smoother and shorter, but even when it doesn’t, it can be useful information rather than a problem to fix. As long as you’re not finding it distressing, it’s a fascinating observation to make about your practice and to watch how it morphs over time. Sounds like you’re doing great–keep it up!
