Thought this article would be a great conversational stimulator to show how a gallery open call could have an impact on their community. To immerse yourself among artists through writing. The whole experience deals with mindfulness, good writing comes from prose, dialog and inner chatter. My article was framed as an Op-Ed, compared to a short story and poems. And figured it might be nice to share this piece with all of you. It’s free, and available through the site.

I liked this line: “not an audition, not a transaction, but a conversation.”
You can feel the difference when a space is built around participation instead of performance. A lot of people want connection with art, but not everyone feels comfortable walking into environments that seem to assume prior knowledge or a certain social confidence.
Also interesting to read this in the context of meditation practice. There’s something similar about creating conditions where people can explore honestly without feeling evaluated the whole time.
Sounds like they built a genuinely welcoming atmosphere, which is harder to do than people think.
